The North American B-25 Mitchell is a medium bomber named in honor of General Billy Mitchell, a United States Army general who is widely regarded as the father of the United States Air Force. A two engine propeller driven aircraft with an H-tail configuration, it was considered to be a safe and forgiving aircraft. The B-25J Mitchell was used extensively during World War II by the Allies, notably on the Pacific Front. The B-25J was by far the most popular of all B-25 variants. It included additional armaments, modified nose and heavier fuselage panels.
The Postage Stamp North American B-25J Mitchell in "Betty's Dream" nose art represents an aircraft belonging to the 499th BS, 345th BG known as the "Air Apaches."
